about work authorization

by Oksana
(Brooklyn, NY)

hello! I have been fired one week ago.
I have worked on the company for 2 years. When I got employed i had a work authorization, social security. But when i got fired i had no work authorization, only a social security number. I applied for work authorization and it'll come in a month. can i apply for unemployment when i get work authorization or now?

Hi,

One of the basic criteria for being eligible to receive unemployment benefits is that you must be able and available for work.

I think not having a work authorization would make you unable to work.

At least, that's what I think makes sense.
