Unemployed Stories

Am I eligible for benefits if I quit due to moving due to lack of income.

by David
(Oregon)

I was living in Oregon but quit my job because I couldn't make ends meet. I moved to MA to live with my parents and work with my brother but that didn't work out and I moved back to OR to be with my children. At the beginning of 2009 I was making $5000/month but got laid off. Subsequently I collected unemployment, then got the new job making way less money ($2500/month), then decided to quit and move to MA. Do I have any chance? Thanks.

Hi David,

Maybe. Possibly. When and if you reopen your claim the issue facing you will be a voluntary quit .. either with or without good cause.

The only possibility that I see for you and suggest you look into whether you can prove good cause for is quitting because the work was not "suitable work".
