can a employee be terminated if a manager was off the clock and disrespect the employee?

employee had instruction from one manager and another manager that was off the clock was being disrespectful to the employee and then gave other instructions to employee, Can an employee be terminated for defending themselves and because of the instructions that the manager that was off the clock?
