Can I apply for North Carolina benefits even though I don't live there any more?

I lived in NC from Dec. 2006 till August 2008. I worked for the same company while I worked there. It's Corporate office is located in PA. I just lost my job. Can I apply for unemployment in NC even though I don't live there any more.

Hi,

You can, but the wages you earned in NC will just be part of the base period and collecting benefits will be determined by your last separation from a job.

Have you worked since then?

I still worked for the same company but in Pa. I've worked for them until June 2009.

You should file in PA then. Whether you file the claim in PA or NC .. PA law is the state that will make the decision, determine the weekly benefit amount, etc. PA will be the liable state.

If you file the claim in NC, they will just check with PA. I say cut out the middleman .. to many possibilities for things to get confused when you file an interstate claim.
