Can I get partial unemployment if my hours are cut

by Kathleen
(Sausalito, CA USA)

I currently am employed at 32 hours a week. My employer will be reducing my hours to 16 hours a week. Am I eligible to collect unemployment if this happens? I am 68 years old and also wondering if this is grounds for age discrimination?

Hi Kathleen,

A reduction in hours presents the possibility for collecting California partial unemployment benefits.

But whether you get them or not is a math problem.

All states have their own formula for calculating the benefit amount each week.

It's a MONETARY calculation.

You can use the resource located at the link above. It has the partial unemployment benefits formulas for all fifty states.
