Can I quit a part time job and collect unemployment on my original claim in new york?

I was laid off from a full time job in New York in August 2009 and started to collect unemployment. I have just taken a part time job, 22 1/2 hours per week, but 5 days a week, and have worked for 2 weeks. The hourly rate is under 80% of what I was earning previously and I have no benefits. I want to leave this job and resume my original unemployment claim since I need to find a full time job. This job is just not financially enough. Can I do this?

Hi,

Not without good cause you can't. Can I assume you knew how much this job paid when you accepted it?

I was collecting UI from a full time job that let me go. They had me on call for the Christmas season. I worked Nov 19 for 5hrs then black friday for 10hrs. I was then scheduled to work 2days 5hrs a day 8.25 am hr. I then wasn't called for 2 wks. Now my UI is being held up because they never returned any of my calls.requesting more time saying I quit.

Have you received a determination from the NYDOL saying you are disqualified because you voluntarily quit?
