Can I quit a part time job and collect unemployment on my original claim in new york?

by robin
(nassau county, new york)

I was laid off from a full time job in New York in August 2009 and started to collect unemployment. I have just taken a part time job, 22 1/2 hours per week, but 5 days a week, and have worked for 2 weeks. The hourly rate is under 80% of what I was earning previously and I have no benefits. I want to leave this job and resume my original unemployment claim since I need to find a full time job. This job is just not financially enough. Can I do this?

Hi,

Not without good cause you can't. Can I assume you knew how much this job paid when you accepted it?
