Unemployed Stories

Can I sign up for unemployment benefits if I have been given a 2 week notice from my employer or do I have to wait until I work out my 2 weeks.

by Tom
(Ft Myers, Fl)

I have been working with a contractor group through the FDIC closing down a bank that I had previously worked for. They said they would give us a 2 week notice when our services were no longer needed. I got my notice Friday and wanted to sign up for the unemployment but it stated that because I earned income this week I would have to wait until I had no income. I just want to get the process started.

Tom,

You have to be unemployed when you file the claim .. it's a requirement .. no head starts allowed.
