Fired for attendance due to illness

by annonymous
(st. louis, mo)

I was hospitalized, and out of work for about 6 weeks. I just recently started this job a few months prior. I didn't qualify for fmla or any leave other than sick time and/or vacation time. I came back to work, and then went out sick again for another few days. When it happened the third time, I was terminated. I applied for unemployment due to this, and it is still waiting to be investigated..it's been about 6 weeks since I filed. Is there any hope I may be approved?

Hi Anonymous,

Without knowing the details regarding your last absences and whether doctor notes were provided etc., I can't say anything other than that when illness is the cause for an absence and the final incident is covered by a doctor's note .. there is usually no doubt that a person will receive unemployment benefits.
