Frugal Recipe for No Bake Cookies
by April
Here's a favorite of mine that my Gram used to make that is very simple and frugal.
I have a desire to stay away from the preservatives (as much as possible), that are found in many of the store bought treats that are on the grocery shelves. They are packed full of refined sugars, high fructose corn syrup and everything that isn't good for us.
Making sweet treats that are healthy doesn't mean that you have to spend countless hours in the kitchen, and for many of us, it is simply not an option, so we resort to the Little Debbies and the Hostess Twinkies! There are healthier options that don't require a lot of money or a lot of time. Our lives are busy and time is valuable to us, but so is our health.
So I have another one of my Grandmother's recipes that is easy to do, it's healthier than a Little Debbie and for a somewhat healthier choice you can substitute the 2 cups sugar with Splenda. And if you use coupons like me, you can get sweet deals on Splenda when it goes on sale. And it's a healthier alternative than white refined sugar. I also use organic natural sugar, which in my opinion is also a better choice than the refined white sugar that you buy at the store.
So I hope you enjoy this no bake cookie recipe!
2 c. Sugar
1/2 c. Milk
1 Stick of Butter
Pinch of Salt
1/2 c. Peanut Butter
1 tsp. Vanilla
3 c. Oatmeal
Boil the sugar, milk, butter and salt in a saucepan for 1 minute. Stir in peanut butter and Vanilla. Pour over oatmeal, stir until well blended. Drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper.
Another alternative is using Nutella instead of peanut butter. it gives a chocolaty flavor to it and is wonderful tasting!!!
