Haven't received the decision from the Referee for my PA unemployment appeal
by liz
(PA Unemployment)
Im located in PA
I got terminated on Jan 20th, 2011. I apply for Unemployment and got the denied letter on March 1st. By March 2nd the appeal request letter was sent to the unemployment office to start the process of the appeal. I waited and waited and received my hearing date schedule on 5/11. I think everything went ok, when my employer got there they change their reason for terminating me, so it threw my lawyer off. Anyways is now 5/23/11 & I still haven't received anything... No letter & everytime I check my claim status by email it gives me the same message that it said back march:
"Your claim is under appeal. You will be contacted directly by the referee office. Please continue to file your biweekly claims"
I will like to know apprx how long does it take for the referee to make the decision if I get it or not?
Please Help!
Thank You
Liz
Liz,
Generally speaking, a hearing decision should be mailed to you within one to two weeks.
And .. since you did have a lawyer with you, it should also be mailed to them. Call them and tell them you're anxious and ask them when they would start to worry about the decision.
I'm also curious as to why your 'lawyer' would have been thrown off. Employers, just like claimants, change their stories quite frequently.
So .. I wonder why your lawyer wasn't prepared for the 'unexpected' because that is in my opinion .. solid preparation anticipates and speculates also.
