How To Keep Lettuce Fresh Longer

by Sherry Hammett
(Frugal Tip From Weatherford Texas)

How to keep lettuce fresh longer

To save money when purchasing those tubs of precut and prewashed lettuce mixes, do not touch with your hands or fingers.

Remember when Mom told you not to touch the bird's nest or the momma bird wouldn't have anything to do with the babies?

I don't know how, but the principle is similar and applies here. Both are no good if touched with human hands.

Use tongs or even the tines of your fork to dole out portion from the tub and the lettuce will last for WEEKS! Promise.

Past experience has taught me this trick. I've used it long before I was unemployed and living more frugal now.

You can find these tubs on sale most of the time, so unless you're feeding an army, these tubs are cost-conscious.

It's hard to clean a head of lettuce without touching it.
