I got laid off @ my job, can I collect umemployment if I moved to Georgia?

by Stephania
(New York)

I got laid off @ my job, I work there for 7 years. i want to moved to Georgia all my family are there but can I still collect unemployment.

Hi Stephania,

I am not aware of a NY locality provision that would stop you from continuing to collect benefits in Georgia.

But this does not mean that you are not required to properly inform the state of NY who will probably require you to register with the state of Georgia for work and adhere to Georgia's job search requirements.
