Unemployed Stories

Job and soon to be school less

I have been collecting Unemployment since I lost my job in March of 2009. I searched high and low for another job with no luck. After sitting home for several months I decided to go back to school to enhance my skills and provide myself with better opportunities.

I just received a letter that my unemployment is no more because I have maxed out.

I was just informed that you can still collect unemployment while you are attending school.

If I am not eligible for any more benefits, not only haven't I found a job yet, but I may have to drop out of school as well cause I have no more finances to get to school or books.

Financial aide isn't always enough from one semester to the next.

Comments anyone?

You dodged a "bullet"
by: Anonymous

Read Chris' column on the left hand side of this web page, "School & Benefits."

Appears you have managed to attend school for a year and a half without notifying the unemployment department. Does the claim form for your state or whatever method is used to report a weekly claim, ask if you had started or were enrolled in school? Most do.

For now, looks like you may have dodged a "bullet," but shot yourself in the foot. You have no work, no source to pay for the essentials of life.

Good luck.
