Massachusetts Disability Benefits

by roger
(plymouth,ma)

I had a hip replacement and quad bypass surgery. So company fired me. I have applied for disability benefits 3 months ago still pending. Can I apply for unemployment? till i hear back from social security

Hi Roger,

You can apply .. and I'm certain the separation would be for a qualifying reason as long as you did everything that is required of you previous to being fired, but you would not be able to collect the unemployment unless you are able and available for at least some kind of work.

I know, it's ironic, but although any state could provide coverage for unemployment benefits when suffering from a disability under the federal guidelines, only NY, CA, NJ, HI, and RI have elected to have such a program for someone in your predicament.
