NJ denied my claim

by Abbey
(NJ)

I quit my job in NJ when my husband, who earns far more than me was given a forced transfer to GA. Since having to leave NJ I have not been able to obtain work. I received my denial letter and wonder if it was worth an appeal. We really need the money to help pay our bills as we are used to being two income. NJ sited the denial reason as that I left work for "personal" reasons. This is not fair because I had to due to my husbands income being far more and we could not make it on just mine and if we stayed in NJ there would be no job for him.

According to this letter submitted to the office of Workforce Security by New Jersey .. I'd say yes, it's worth the appeal due to quitting for compelling personal reasons.

Board Appeals
by: Anonymous

Hello Abbey,
I am in the same situation you were in. I wanted to know if it was worth appealing because I was denied once already.
Thanks

Hi,

Board appeals (appeals of a hearing decision) are not the same as the appeals of departmental determinations which lead to a lower level hearing to discuss the facts surrounding the reason for separation.

Board appeals are based on errors and failures made by the hearing officer .. at least this is a general description of the difference.
