Unemployed Stories

Personal Reason

by Maria Munoz
(Crystal City, TX USA)

I gave employer two weeks notice and explained of why I was moving away. I was to help take care of Elderly Parent which is in a Hospice home. I did ask if it would be possible to apply for unemployment for a couple of months. I was told that they would not object to it. Now I am being denied benefits by the State of WI because I quit for personal reasons and I should have ask for a FMLA {family medical leave of absence}. When I explained my situation to my employer the leave of absence was pretty much the last scenario. My position was HR and a person was hired before my departure. So me going to help my parents not a Good Cause for benefits? I did file for an Appeal

FMLA is not the last scenario .. it's the first scenario to be exhausted.
