quit without good cause

by anthony
(timonium maryland)

I left my last position due to the commission structure changing, i have the original papperwork that says nothing about this can possibly change. At first they ruled in my favor and was given benefits. After I missed my appeals hearing I received a letter saying the decision was reversed. What do i do?

Why did you miss the hearing Anthony?

I was out of town.I sent a letter requesting a phone hearing but they said I didn't send it in time.

Maryland requires you make that request withing three days of the hearing.

Appeal the decision .. timely. Request a reopening of the hearing. Read the MD rules and procedures to see what constitutes good cause and if you can provide proof or a reason that may be good cause for the late request and subsequent non appearnace send that with the appeal. If you can't do this just be aware that if they allow the reopening the new hearing notice will now have an additional "issue" regarding your non-appearance at the last hearing.

Was it some kind of emergency that took you out of town?
