Unemployed Stories

Receiving UI in NJ, took job for 1 day but it wasn't a good fit for either of us.

I'm in Tier 1. When I originally filed my claim in May 2010 we were told NOT to mail in the card stating we were reemployed until we had been in the job for one week. They were adamant that we should not stop our claim or mail in the card until we held the job for a week. I'm still searching and did not stop my claim. This job paid a 1/4 of what I was making, the employer was verbally abusive and after being there one day, I was told by other employees that the job and benefits were not what I had been told at the outset so I opted out so I could continue to job hunt. Are my benefits in jeopardy?

They could be in jeopardy .. if you fail to account for that one day when filing for continuing benefits. I already see the argument that you quit because the work was not suitable and that the employer misled you at the time of hire.

Listen up everyone .. all states and now the federal government to centralize all the data have "new hire reporting" systems.

It's a requirement for employers to report new hires to the state .. this is how they find out about people not reporting earnings .. even if it's just one day of earnings .. from a new employer.

Let your imagination run wild .. mine already has.

I checked in today with them and was told to claim the money earned on the next claim day. They told me one days work no harm no foul that it won't affect my ongoing claims. Thank you for the info.

Okey Dokey.

of course, that's what they tell me today. That's not to say it won't be questioned later.

;-)That's the attitude .. anticipation.
