Subject: Unemployment Residency

Scenario: Have been receiving Ohio unemployment for a month now and have the opportunity to pursue some job leads in Georgia. Would like to interview there for the next couple of weeks to a month. I still have bills and job leads coming to my residence in Ohio. If I temporarily change my mailing address to Georgia, will that have an effect on my unemployment benefits? Are there residency limitations that affect unemployment benefits? Any web sites to look up answers to this topic? Thanks



Hi,

I am not aware that Ohio has any locality provisions which would prohibit you from "moving", but I would be concerned about changing my address "temporarily".

I think it would raise a flag and cause the state to investigate your "availability for work".
