unemployment benefits and contract work

by Kathleen
(California)

I was laid off in California and am currently receiving UI benefits. I am considering a contract position (W-2, not self employed) that will last 6-7 months. At the end of that time, will I still be eligible to receive my UI benefits again?

Hi Kathleen,

Yes you should, but be aware that the WBA and your base period would change if your benefit year ends in that 6-7 month period.

It would have been helpful to know how long ago your current claim was established.

Thank you for your response. My claim was filed in November 2009.

Then you should be okay .. just hope they pass another federal extension soon.
