Unemployment benefits when a company closes
Question: If the company I work for closes, can I collect unemployment?
Yes, unless they have sold to someone else and that someone else makes an offer of suitable work. This is when people get into trouble when it comes to getting unemployment.
No doubt, you would be entitled when one closes due to being laid off, but any benefits you would be entitled to for the lack of work claim could be endangered when the state is informed you refused an offer of work
from the new owners that is considered to be suitable instead of collecting unemployment.
If this isn't your situation .. happy collecting.
