When does my unemployment run out? Sign the petition for a new unemployment extension today!!

by Dan
(Troy, NY, USA)

I have been on unemployment since the end of July and it says my year is up in July 2012. However, I have about half of the money that is allotted already paid to me and at this rate it will be at 0 by January/February. Does this mean I can reclaim unemployment?

That's how unemployment works .. a claim last one year and regular benefits in any one claim year only amount to approximately 26 weeks.

Any further benefits will be an extension during the current benefit year and possibly the next one unless you have earned sufficient wages for a new base period and a new round of regular benefits to exhaust first.

And since you are worried about benefits running out .. maybe you should sign the petition for extensions to be reauthorized without a lapse this time.
