COLLECTING AND WORKED 4 WKS DID NOT REPORT EARNINGS

by VF

(MA)

I WAS COLLECTING UI IN THE STATE OF MA GOT A JOB AND WORKED FOR 4 WKS WITHOUT REPORTING EARNINGS BECAUSE I WANTED TO MAKE SURE JOB WAS GOING TO WORK OUT BUT IT DID NOT BECAUSE MY CAR COULD NOT DO ALL THAT TRAVELING. I HAVE BEEN WORKING SINCE NOV AND THE COMPANY IS NOW CUTTING BACK ON EVERYONES HRS I WANT TO SEE IF I CAN GET HELP FROM UI BUT NOT SURE WHAT WILL HAPPEN.

Hi,

You messed up big time and I think it sounds like you committed unemployment fraud by not reporting the earnings ..

Anyway you go now .. I think you screwed up and the DUA will find out.

Prepare for an overpayment for at least the benefits you received while trying out the job. It’s deserved.

Contact the Florida Inspector General’s office. That the office of the attorney general .. I think and I know at least it’s the office that oversees the FL unemployment dept.

Rehire pending under investigation…

by: Anonymous

I am in the oppossite situation. My former employer forgot to include 2 weeks severance pay in my last check. I have been fighting for months this error. Finally after two months they made good and sent me the money.
I have been collecting unemployment benefits. Now in my case, I was denied the first month as I was told my last check exceeded and some jargon… fine, okay, so I lost one month, was not too happy, I had some savings. Now my last employer finally after their investigation saw that they made a mistake, and sent me the check. Unemployment found out within days (probably hours), as those wages were reported and taxes taken out. My former employer and I received a letter, we both filled it out, stating that was for money owed and that I was NOT rehired. My employer faxed theirs, I tried to do the same, but apparently in Florida, they shut down their fax machine on the weekend, I had only one day that felt on the weekend, so I mailed mine as I wanted it postmarked withing that period (they give you only 5 days to receive and return…really??!!! I had to go to a friends job the Saturday I received to fax it, but their face was shut off.
Well, my benefits are on suspension until they investigate further. I am still putting my works searches but not receiving benefits. I am now worried because my savings are almost depleted, I only have one more month to cover for expenses.
How long is this process. Someone from the Equal Opportunity called me to interview me over the phone, I think it was unrelated because at the end of the call, she told me she was removing one flag (at first I thought it was for a job position, because I have applied to the state of Florida for jobs)basically she asked me if when I was available to work? I said ASAP, how far will I be willing to trave? I said about 55 miles (1 hour), the minimum wage I will be willing to receive? well I told her I was open to salary, she made me tell her, I said well a starting nurse will probably start around $45K, will I be going back to school? I said I plan to, but my priority right now is getting a job, how much experience do I have? Told her over 22 years. I guess she was satisfied, when I told her about this other thing, she looked into it and it did show there was a flag on “rehire”, gave me a number that I have been calling ever since. NO one comes to the line, just tells me to leave name and phone #, someone will call me within one day—-yeah, right…I have been waiting. I made a call to the main number to be told they wait 45 days to submit my letter to the “unit” and from there it can take months, since there are many people in the same boat…wow.
So within days they suspend but they take like forever to reinstate?
I am not a happy camper right now. Not sure what to do other than show up in person to Tallahassee to expedite this.

Surviving and cheap opinion

by: Anonymous

I feel that as there are many hard working citizens that do pay tax and will for many of yrs to come living is this country.

If you have a moment of survival, sure a new job will last or not which means for a few wks, Yes it should be reported, but survival and taking advantage are two whole different issues!!!! So what you want with that!!!!

What a NO NO

by: Heather

This makes me wonder if people even read what they are signing UNDER PENALTY OF PERJURY. People know that they have to report any money made while working (whether you have been paid yet or not). Not doing so is a total mistake and once a person chooses to go down this road then they just have to deal with the consequences as they come. People need to think about what they are doing before they do it. It may benefit you in the moment but in the end you will end up paying far more than the benefit you received.
