cursing

by bridgette

(louisiana)

i was a customer service rep and said a curse word after one of the phone calls was over, is this considered misconduct to deny me benefits.

Bridgette,

What does the employee handbook say? .. And what did you say?

Yes, it can be misconduct, but the employer rules are important to know if one has been fired and what was spoken can also be important to know .. because there are some curse words when used in conjunction with other words .. that can be cause for immediate termination and a defense of an “inadvertent and isolated instance of a mistake” just won’t work because a “reasonable person” should know better.
