Can I collect unemployment if I have been fired for refusing to work on Saturday due to religious convictions? – California

by jose

(Los Angeles, CA )

I am unable to work on Saturdays due to religious convictions. My manager spoke to me today that either I start working on Saturdays or get fired. I’ve been with the company for about 7 months and I have a clean record (never been absent or late). They have reduced everyone hours at work due to slow business. I am willing to work less hours if necessary as long as I don’t work on Saturdays. I am in Los Angeles County, CA. Thank you.

Hi Jose,

I couldn’t find this issue addressed under the misconduct section of the eligibility guide, but it’s big and bold under voluntary quits.

It makes sense if you have good cause to quit .. an employer wouldn’t have good cause to fire you, but you need to read to see if the good cause will fit your situation.

You can read all about it here.
