Am I eligible for unemployment benefits in Florida

by Jendy

(Bradenton, FL. USA)

In Dec 2008, while living in Ohio, I was laid-off from my job and received unemployment from Ohio. I moved to Florida and needed to file my first extension in Ohio. However, I then was hired by a company in Florida and worked from July 2, 2009 until being laid off January 22, 2010. Am I eligible for unemployment benefits in Florida or in Ohio?

Hi Jendy,

I believe it will be a question of whether you monetarily qualify.

I also believe you will need to establish a another benefit year now. I don’t think you can go back and pick up any extension.

If you file anytime in the present quarter your base period (period of time they look at wages to qualify) will be 10-1-08 through 9-30-09.

You must have wages in at least two quarters and there is also a minimum amount of wages required.

These formulas can be found in a resource chartbook at the USDOL about unemployment-pay
