Base period for military retiree…

by Scott

(Kentucky)

Hi Max,

I was wondering what you mean by “base period” in your reply to someone who was wondering if their military retirement pay would offset any unemployement compensation received in their state. How do I determine if I retired in my base period or before it? How do I determine what my base period is?

Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott,

I answered this question on the question in a comment on the question about Tennessee unemployment for retired military.

Although unemployment for ex-military service members is possible per the UCX program, once a person applies for benefits the laws of the state for determining base periods, what is considered deductible income, the amount of benefits entitled to, etc., controls.
