CA UI available at the end of a consulting position?

by Michelle

(CA)

I was laid off in California and have been receiving UI benefits since mid-June 2009. I am considering a consulting position (W-9) that will last 3 months. At the end of that time, will I still be eligible to receive my UI benefits again? I believe I can not collect during the 3-month contract, so how do I go about cancelling my current claim?

Hi Michelle,

Call the EDD and ask them what would be the wisest thing to do in your position. Personally, I don’t think canceling the claim is the way to go because then you might not have one to reopen in three months.
