Can I apply for unemployment in Florida if I am not a Florida resident?

by Anonymous

(Florida)

I have worked for a retail store in Florida and was let go because of being late several times and for not getting along with some of the other employees. I have worked there for 4 months, but I am not a Florida resident currently. I have moved down here from Minnesota 4 months ago, but have not gotten around to getting my residence status changed. How will this affect me getting unemployment benefits in Florida?

Hi Anonymous,

You can apply in Florida because you have wages in Florida now.

They will ask about your employment prior to this also. If it was in Minnesota they will contact Minnesota.

But this is the monetary part .. your problem will be the nonmonetary eligibility.
