Can I collect unemployment because I had to sell my home in new york- coulnt afford to keep it anymore – I’m moving to florida.

(New york)

I have a big problem- I had to sell my home in New york or would have lost it- now I’m moving to florida to cause I can live with my mom- can I collect unemployment until I find a job- there’s no chance of me transferring as the company has no business in florida- what do I do?

Hi Lela,

I say be grateful you have some place to live. You may have a personally compelling reason to do what you needed to do, but you won’t be able to collect unemployment because of it.

So I sold my home because I couldn’t make lot rent etc so because I did that I can’t get unemployment. so we are to loss our home and live on the street that doesn’t make any since to me.

Neither does your statement as it doesn’t even reference how you became separated from your employment.

Getting unemployment benefits when you quit for good personal cause, may be provided for in special provisions in unemployment for laws, but even those, depending on what a state interprets those special provisions to of meant often still require YOU to first exhaust all efforts to preserve the job and that Sandy is what can show the fault to be attributable to the work, or the employer .. because those efforts are documented and they make the employer aware of your situation.

However, not to get anyone’s hopes up quitting a job due to personal financial hardships is in fact, the very thing that often times doesn’t make much sense as the reasons for the financial hardship would only be the fault of the employer if they substantially changed the terms and conditions of the employment to cause that.

You’re confused about what UI is for .. it’s not there to save us when we can’t make lot rent, rent, mortgage payments .. whatever. It’s there as a partial wage replacement when we lose our jobs through no fault of our own, but through the fault of the job .. or the employer.
