Can I collect unemployment if my company goes out of business? FL

by Dave

(Naples, Fl)

I have my own business (corp) and I am the only employee – I pay into Federal and State Unemployment. I am paid for sales I generate for other companies and was wondering if my sales dry up and I not able to get paid can I collect unemployment eventually?

Hi Dave,

I going to refer you to this page. Click 2009 then “Coverage”

The tables address different types of employment. There is a table for treatment of Corporate Officers. It list the states that have special provisions regarding corporate officers.

I would usually tell a person that if they are self-employed, they are not eligible, but you mentioned corp .. so that’s why I’m directing you to the USDOL because I’m uncertain.

It would be great if you could update this with what you learn.

Chris
