Can I qualifiy for unemployment if I have a part time job? OHIO

by Sandy

(Springfield , Ohio USA)

We are getting ready to be laid off from our company in Ohio. I also have to work a part time job of about 18 hours a week. Am I still eligible for unemployment?

Hi Sandy,

Yes. Of course you would be collecting partial benefits because you still have to report the wages from the part-time job.

Anyone in this type of situation needs to be careful though if they subsequently quit the part-time employment .. and people do do this for a variety of reasons. This can cause any benefits to cease .. depending on how the state has decided this issue in previous precedents. Some may deny any further benefits .. others may just remove the wage credits from the part-time job effectively lowering your weekly benefit amount.

Just something I think everyone should be aware of and consider ..
