Can unemployment benifits be transferred from one state (Mass) to anothe (FL)r?

by JUANITA

(FLORIDA)

If a person is collecting in one state and is willing to move to another state to pursue job search can the benefits follow? I’m speaking leaving Mass for Florida where my nephew has family who will help him in his job search. There are various job-fairs held in Florida quite often.

Hi Juanita,

Yes, as long as you first check with your state and follow the procedures. Just to avoid potential problems.

Some states have “locality provisions” also that may have an affect. I don’t believe Mass is one of them, but you would be wise to check.

Additionally, some states may consider you not able and available during the move .. so check.
