Can you still own a bussiness and collect unemployment,Ohio

by Bob

(bowling green,ohio,usa)

Can you still own a business and collect unemployment? Due to the economic down turn can I lay my self off and collect any benefits?

Hi Bob,

Nope. Let me rephrase that. Not according to anything I’ve ever read.

If you go to this page at the USDOL and check out “coverage” it explains who is covered. As a business owner you were only required to pay into your SUTA and FUTA for your workers .. not yourself.

The page I linked to above is the best starting place to get some basic answers about UI whether an employee or an employer. And it covers all states.
