FLORIDA UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIM

by Claudia

(Orlando,FL)

Can I claim unemployment while receiving severance package? I got laid off and put in a payroll for 6 weeks and not sure if I can go ahead and claim my weeks or I have to wait until it ends and reapply again?
Thanks

Yes, you can. The effect will be that the severance cancels out any benefits though. You will have to certify and report this severance for each week.

Of course you could wait to file until the severance was over too. This is up to you.

If you have already filed and you continue to certify you won’t have to “reopen” your claim.
