Florida

I work for a company that is requiring every salaried employee to take 2 weeks (non consecutive weeks) of time off without pay (called a furlough) to help the overall health of the company. Am I eligible to receive unemployment pay during those 2 weeks?

thank you

Hi Anonymous,

I would think this would allow you to open a claim.

Most states require a one week unpaid waiting period. Once that is over with any more weeks you are required to take off unpaid would be a week that you could claim and receive benefits.

You would probably have to file your weekly claims per Florida’s requirements irregardless of whether you worked or not to keep the claim open. You just wouldn’t receive a benefit for the weeks you reported your wages.
