PARENTS NEED PERSONAL CARE

by: Anonymous

BOTH MY PARENTS ARE ELDERLY-MY DAD HAD A QUINTUPLE BY-PASS 2 YRS AGO & 3 STENTS IN HIS HEART THIS YEAR, IS DIABETIC, HAS HIGH CHOLESTEROL, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, CANNOT HEAR WELL & SOMETIMES FORGET IF HE’S TAKEN HIS MEDS OR NOT. ALSO HAS BAD EYESIGHT-CATARACTS. MY MOM HAD SEVERAL MINI-STROKES, IS DIABETIC, HAS HIGH CHOLESTEROL & HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, MEMORY LOSS- I AM NEEDED NEAR TO HELP THEM WITH EVERYDAY LIVING , MEDS, DOCOTR APPTS AND MORE.

There is really no way around this .. you still have to show you made the efforts to preserve the employment before you decide to quit .. this may include requesting a transfer and almost always winds up forcing you into getting medical documentation to support the need for an FMLA leave .. however, when the employer can’t offer a transfer and the care of the parent still allows you to work outside the home in whatever suitable work is .. FMLA exhausts after 12 weeks and your job is no longer protected .. and this creates the need to make a request for a personal leave .. whether you know it futile or not .. because it’s basically, the last effort of someone desirous of remaining employed.

So, in the final analysis .. most people in your situation hoping to collect unemployment get fired for circumstances beyond their control and without regard for their filial obligations.

And .. just to collect .. they will probably have to prove the need for care doesn’t restrict their ability nor availability to accept suitable work.

It a process and the fact is that FMLA requires some sort of disability coverage that would extend to the medical care of others .. because it’s rare to be able to collect unemployment while still an employee on leave.
