I WANT TO QUIT MY JOB BECAUSE I AM BEING ASKED TO PERFORM DUTIES NOT INCLUDED IN MY JOB DESCRIPTION. I WOULD NEVER HAVE TAKEN THIS JOB IF THIS DUTY WAS PART OF THE JOB.

by NANCY TOURES

(ORLAND PARK IL)

CAN I COLLECT UNMPLOYMENT IF I QUIT BECAUSE I AM BEING ASKED TO PERFORM A DUTY NOT INCLUDED IN MY JOB DESCRIPTION. THIS DUTY IS SOMETHING OF WHICH I WOULD NEVER HAVE TAKEN JOB. DO I HAVE A CASE?

I can’t answer you affirmatively or negatively because I do not know what the “written” job description contains, nor do I know what the “new duty” consists of to even think about whether your reason for quitting will be seen as a “reasonable choice” that any reasonable person would feel the need to quit also.

I also don’t know what you are trying to do to “preserve the employment”.
