If I have already been awarded benefits can they be discontinued because I moved. Also how long does the unemployment office have to communicate with my former employer?

(New York State Unemployment Benefits)

I was having trouble with child care in NYS , so i couldnt work many hours . My job said theyd take me off of the schedule for a couple weeks. Then i recieved a notice that my benifits were being terminated. So i claimed And was awarded benefits . I wasnt informed of the decision for about five weeks .Before I was informed ,I had to move home with my parents (out of town). Then I got a Phone call from a rep they said they were discontinuing it . Can they make me pay them back ? And it’s been 6 weeks now how is this. ?

Yes, of course benefits can be terminated after you start receiving them, however your relating of the facts are confusing as to the reason they were terminated.

You say it’s because you moved, however what I want to know is what the determination said was the reason.

Did you change your address with the stated so you would receive your mail at your parents in a timely manner?

Did you receive your mail in time?

An informational letter from or a report of fraud is all it takes to stop benefits if the info indicates you shouldn’t be collecting.

Of course, you would need to appeal any stoppage of benefits so a hearing can be scheduled to get your benefits and backpay (if you’ve continued filing .. and you should).

If you care to be more clear about your circumstances and relate the facts fully and chronologically .. I’d be happy to take the time to ask questions if I need more info and I think I can help.
