If I move from Kansas City, Mo to Wichita, Ks, will I be able to collect UI?

by Anonymous

(Missouri)

Hello, my husband and I are relocating to Wichita, KS to be close to our family, and to find work for me, will I still be able to collect Unemployment insurance from MO? or will I not get UI at all. Thank you in advance!

Hi Anonymous,

It should not present a problem as long as you follow the Missouri’s procedure for changing your address and comply with any other requirements they may have such as registering for work with the other state.

Neither Missouri nor Kansas have a locality provision limiting an unemployed person collecting benefits from moving to a different state.

On the other hand .. moving may raise an issue of whether you were able and available for work while you were moving.
