Moving from Florida to North Carolina

by Ronald Whitaker

(Tamarac, FL. USA)

My job in Florida is being outsourced in the not too distant future. When that happens, I am considering moving to North Carolina. If I remained in Florida, I know I would be eligible for Unemployment, but what if I move to North Carolina. Am I still eligible and where would I file?

Hi Ronald,

Yes you would still be eligible for unemployment if you meet all eligibility requirements.

You could probably file for unemployment on either states website. But in either case Florida would be the liable state. NC would probably be the paying state. All state websites have information about filing if you worked in another state.

Most states also require a claimant to register for work in the state where they are now living and adhere to that state’s work search requirements, which by the way also vary from state to state.
