Quitting Due to Lack of Transportation

I only know of two states, Arizona and Connecticut, that that have provisions for this type of quit, and I don’t know the details of the conditions that need to exist to make it good cause. There may be more states, but I’m not aware of any.

I WAS RECENTLY DISCHARGED FROM THE MILITARY AND BEGAN RECEIVING UNEMPLOYMENT FOR ABOUT 7 MONTH’S. I FINALLY GIT A JOB WHERE I TRAVELED 45 MILES TO GET TO WORK. AFTER 4 DAYS OF WORK, MY TRUCK BROKE DOWN AND I COULD NO LONGER GET TO WORK. OBVIOUSLY I HAD TO QUIT AND COULD NOT GET MY TRUCK FIXED IN TIME. THEY SAID I QUIT FOR PERSONAL REASONS AND THAT THE REASON GIVEN WAS NOT GOOD CAUSE CONNECTED WITH THE WORK. IT IS NOW WORKING SO I REPORTED IT TO THE TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION WHO NOW FOUND ME ELIGIBLE FOR BENEFITS BECAUSE I NOW HAVE TRANSPORTATION, BUT I HAVE TO NOW WORK 6 WEEKS AND EARN SO MUCH INCOME BEFORE BEING ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE BENEFITS AGAIN. IS THERE ANYWAY I CAN APPEAL THIS AS ALTHOUGH IT MAY SOUND LIKE A PERSONAL REASON IT WAS NOT AN INTENTIONAL REASON TO HAVE TO QUIT MY JOB. HAS ANYONE EVER EXPERIENCED THIS SITUATION IN TEXAS AND WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO RE-ESTABLISH BENEFITS?

You can try, but it won’t work. You quit the job because your truck broke down .. there is no provision in Texas that would allow unemployment benefits for this reason. Additionally, since you had no transportation you were not available for work .. by your own admission as this being the reason you quit. Now you want to appeal the “disqualification for a voluntary quit without good cause, again .. useless.

To remove the disqualification in Texas you must return to work and .. either have Six weeks of work or wages equaling at least 6 times your weekly benefit amount .. which was calculated and the monetary determination should let you know what that amount is.

Hi, I was involved in an auto accident, in which I was not at fault. My vehicle was considered totaled because of the wreck. I worked out a way to get back & forth to work with another employee who lived close by. This s hedule has been in affect for 3 weeks now, where my store manger would schedule me & the other employee around the same time to work until my settlement comes thru for me to get another vehicle. Just recently the owner of the company wanted me to work at a different location which is about 20 miles from my hiring location. I told him I was unable to due it because I would have no transportation there & back home. He because very upset & said therefore it was not allowed for me & the other employee who I had arranged transportation with to even be on the same shift. I am new to the city, I don’t know anyone & the bus stops are miles from my residency. QUESTION.. if I was fired or ended having to quit because of lack of transportation to work could I receive unemployment? There was no problem before with the schedule & the owner approved it every week before the crew seen it & knew that I had set this up with the store manger who also agreed seeing on how before the wreck, the other employee & i basically had the same shifts anyways & said it wouldn’t be a problem. I was also injured in the wreck resulting in surgery.

Additionally, it seems to me your question is more about you claiming the employer may fire you for something other than misconduct .. or not withing the terms and condition of employment.

for instance, when you accepted the job .. ask yourself whether you were made aware you may be asked to work at a location twenty miles away.

but then there are a ton of Q&A’s where I raise questions to ask oneself about the terms and conditions of hire.

Additionally, you need to ask yourself whether you have cleared the probationary period .. since you’re new to the city.

I was car less for 5 years broke my back on the bus. Yes the bus is a pain in the ass, late stops running. Its hell! im not going to sugar coat any thing about the bus. It also sais something to employers as well as your personal life as well!

I guess all caps (shouting when you’re on the internet) means you think unemployment benefits and other types of programs actually work the same here in the U.S., as they do for those in Canada?
