Why can’t my son continue benefits after first 26 weeks? For Michael in Florida

by Peggy

(Florida)

My son worked for his company for 4 years before being laid off in January 2010. He is about to finish his first 26 weeks of Unemployment and was told that he will not receive any additional weeks. He didn’t understand the reasons but they told him he would receive a letter.
I started receiving UI in June 2009 and finished my 26 weeks and then received tier 2 and 3. What would determine why I could receive all this UI and he could only receive the 26 weeks and that’s the end.

Federal unemployment extensions expired on June 2, 2010 and the senate is still debating.
