Can I collect unemployment benefits? 1st job-quit, 2nd job-layoff.

(Kent County, MI)

Hello,

I was wondering if I were to quit my job with my previous employer(not giving the 2 weeks notice) and start working for a new employer which may end in a layoff say a few months later, will I be able to collect unemployment. I believe for unemployment you have to be with your current employer for at least 6 months before you are able to file for benefits. Would this situtation due to not being with new employer long, go back to the previous employer who could possible deny my benefits due to the fact of just quiting.

Thank you,

Wondering

Hi Wondering,

It depends on the Michigan disqualification for voluntarily quitting.
