Can I file for recieve partial unemployement

by J. Rhea
(Virginia)

I am employed at a small family owned store. When hired I was working about 30 hours a week, occasionally I did get 40 hours. Once my child started school in August I informed my boss that I could only work between 9am and 3pm and that i was not able to work night shift on Tues. and Thurs. and I was cut back to 16 hrs

2 new people were hired one full-time to take the place of an employee who quit and 1 full-time to pick up the slack. I informed my boss (after the 2 listed above were hired) that I am now able to work any shift but I am still only getting 16 hrs can I file for partial benefits.

Thanks
J.Rhea

You can, but I doubt it will do any good. The reduction in hours wasn't due to the employer .. it was due to you limiting your availability for work.
