Can I re-file for unemployment insurance after being denied? Is there a waiting period before I can do that?

by Nat
(New York)

I had been denied unemployment insurance in New York about a month ago and wanted to know if I can re-file a claim. I had to quit my last job because my boss was breaking some rules and I had complained to my union for a year but nothing changed, so I quit because it was not a healthy environment for me to be in. I went back to school and now I cannot find a job. Is there a chance I can receive benefits for the reason above?

Hi Nat,

Why were you denied? Was it a voluntary quit disqualification? Or was it a disqualification because you went back to school and are considered to be NOT able and available?

Re-Filing

I was denied unemployment because I went to school after I had to quit. My boss' were being unfair. After that, I decided to go to school, I gave these reasons and I was denied. I just wanted to see if I can reapply later on.

It will only do some good if you first return to work, purge the disqualification for quitting, and then have a "qualifying separation from your next job.
