Do I need to fill out a new Florida claim after my credits are gone?

(Florida)

I was laid off as a server in a restaurant in May of 2008. I collected unemployment benefits until Oct.when I found another job. I was laid off 4/19/09 from that job and filled out another claim. When I went online today, 5/11 to get info on my claim, it said a check for $550 has been issued to my account with a balance of $712 in credits. This is leftover from last years claim. And it said that I cannot fill out a new claim until after 5/11/09, one year from my last claim. I didn't know that and already filed a claim on 4/20/09. Do I need to file again?

Hi Anonymous,

I'll try to answer, but you need to be a good little claimant and verify with the state because I'm not taking the responsibility:) And you have to promise to report back what you learned .. Please!!

I am quite frankly a little unclear about establishing a new benefit year in this day and age of Emergency Unemployment Compensation.

I quite frankly don't know if you need to start a new claim tomorrow or if emergency benefits will kick in to extend your current benefit year.

Question 14 has a phone number to call.

Florida's information about EUC benefits.

Unemployment Balance

what is the website to check my unemployment balance

You've got to be kidding me. Why are you asking me this question?

It's an administrative question only you, your state and your employer should know for sure.

Why don't you ask your state unemployment department .. or read that information they are required to send to you?

Maybe they provided a web address. Maybe they don't have a website to check on balances.
