Unemployed Stories

Does the employer have a right to the wages that I already have collected (unemployment) if I was let go on a 90 day probation period?

I was let go in the state of FL by an employer on my 90 day probabtion period.
Everything was signed off and I am collecting unemployment.
However, I just recently got the mail that I have a hearing over the phone regarding wages that I may need to give back.
Have you ever heard of this before? I am still currently unemployed and I am not receiving any income.

Hi,

Does it say "overpayment" or wages?

Never heard of anyone needing to give back wages, but benefit overpayment determinations are common. back unemployment benefits is common.

I just know I got a letter for a phone hearing that I will possibly will need to give back what I collected.
Have u or anyone else heard of such a thing!
I was on a 90 day probation and I had 2 more weeks left of it.

Hi T,

Absolutely, I've heard of such a thing. It's a hearing notice and it has an issue listed. Clearly someone appealed your benefits .. If I were you I'd make sure their appeal was timely.

Thank you for the response back.

It wasnt appealed at the appropriate time frame. It took 3 weeks for them to appeal it.

I just dont know what to expect at this hearing over the phone.

I am still on unemployment. I can't give them back money that I dont have.

Hi,

I wish I could tell you more, but that would require me to get details and see your paperwork.
