Fired for missing too many days, can I collect unemployment in Pennsylvania?

by Mike Hunt
(warren, pennsylvania)

I have been working for my company for 1 year. They said I was fired for missing too many days. Am I still eligible for unemployment in Pennsylvania?

Hi Mike,

It depends on a number of things. Did the employer follow their own progressive discipline policy with regard to the attendance policy? In other words, were you warned? Did you know your job was in jeopardy if you missed work again?

Why were you absent the last time?

If you were ill it's possible to collect unemployment. It usually comes down to the final incident and what the reason for the absence was.
