Unemployed Stories

if I am on Social security and still working and get laid off can I collect unemployment benefits in california

by Conrad
(California)

I think I'm being discriminated against due to my age.
I've been at the same company for more than 25years.
I'm 72 and have continued to work full time while collecting social security.
I was written up for not providing enough items in a bakery for selling. My manager sets the amounts yet,I'm being blamed for the shortage.
If I loose my job for this so called poor performance can I collect Unemployment and not effect my social security?

Hi Conrad,

Yes, you can. According to the chart (table 5-17) at the USDOL California does not reduce unemployment benefits for receipt of social security benefits.
